Canada Eyes US Golden Dome Missile Defense

Canada Eyes US Golden Dome Missile Defense: The PMO has confirmed that Canada is interested in participating in the U.S. “Golden Dome” missile defence program.

A spokesperson for the PMO told CTV News that Canadians provided Prime Minister Mark Carney with a clear instruction to negotiate a completely new economic and security pact with the United States.

According to the bank, Carney, his ministers, and their American partners are discussing various important topics.

“Discussions on these aspects naturally involve making Norad stronger and improving other efforts like the Golden Dome,” said the PMO statement to CTV News.

President Trump said on Tuesday that the missile defence shield for North America naturally suggests that Canada should be included.

Canada Weighs Joining US Alliance

Canada approached us and wants to contribute to our approach, he said. That means we’ll need to interact with them. As usual, we offer Canada our help by protecting people up north.

The system will catch missiles coming at North America from any distance, either coming from the planet’s surface or space, according to Trump.

According to the U.S. president, the system will be ready by 2029 and will cost $175 billion. On Tuesday, Trump promised his administration would work with Canada to make sure they pay their share.

We are speaking about pricing with them now. They are very aware of the country’s situation, Trump said.

The PMO wouldn’t share a figure for how much Canada plans to spend on the Golden Dome.

In March, an authority in the Canadian government said that, as Prime Minister, Carneydecidede a $6-billion joint venture with Australia would be formed to design an early warning radar system. There were already clear budget details set out in the 2022 plan to update NORAD.

The Liberals promised to invest more than $18 billion in national defence. The plan, as developed by policy experts, would move Canada past its NATO goals before 2030, they explained at a briefing with reporters.

While Carney was at the White House, the U.S. president acknowledged that Canada was doing more to increase its military presence.

Trump’s proposal to build a “Golden Dome” in 2024 originated from Israel’s “Iron Dome” network that trucks use to guard against rockets and artillery up to 70 kilometres away.
