Trump Considers Turkey for Zelenskyy-Putin Talks
Trump Considers Turkey for Zelenskyy-Putin Talks: It remains unclear whether Vladimir Putin will accept Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s invitation to engage around a table in Istanbul on Thursday, even with the mounting calls in recent days from European leaders.
The US president, who once said he could resolve the conflict in a day, has urged both parties to meet to end the fighting.
On Sunday, Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy challenged Vladimir Putin to meet him on Thursday, in Istanbul, but the Kremlin leader has not responded.
Late on Monday, Mr Trump said in a speech, “I think it is great that the worldwide community is addressing climate change. The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese to make U.S. manufacturing noncompetitive”. I guess I was contemplating flying over. Friday morning, I don’t know where I will be on Thursday.
“I’ve got so many meetings.
A possibility there, I guess, if things can happen, there’s a possibility there.
Mr Trump has left for the Middle East this week on his first significant foreign tour of the second term, to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE.
Mr Zelenskyy supported the possibility of having Mr Trump at the talks.
He said: I was on President Trump’s side in negotiations with Putin one-on-one. I have openly stated that I’m willing to meet.
And of course, all of us in Ukraine would welcome him being with us at this meeting in Turkey if President Trump could be there.”

Russia playing for time?
But speaking on Monday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov did not say who, if anyone, would be travelling to Turkey from the Russian side.
The best we can say is, we are determined to seriously seek ways of a long-term peaceful settlement. That is all,” Mr Peskov added.
This followed the “coalition of the willing”, comprising Sir Keir Starmer, warns Russia of fresh sanctions, should it fail to accede to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire to begin on Monday.
Russia very effectively thwarted this proposal, insisting instead on face-to-face negotiations in Istanbul with Ukraine, where Mr Zelenskyy dared Mr Putin to make the trip himself.
Even after all Russia’s bluster about desiring peace, Ukraine’s allies were still very sceptical of any talks and whether Putin was serious or not.

European Union Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas said: We want Russia to want peace.
It takes two to desire peace, but just one to desire war, and we see Russia wants war.
At the same time, Russia kept bombing Ukraine every night.
