UK Unveils Next Generation Growth
UK Unveils Next Generation Growth: From 2026, the government plans to direct funding from master’s degree apprenticeships towards training people at lower levels. According to the Minister, plans are being made to give the next generation extra support with 19,000 additional apprenticeships and other training programs.
The government promises 120,000 new training routes for construction workers, engineers, healthcare staff, and other trades in England before the next election.
It is part of an initiative to improve British workers’ skills and lower net immigration in the country.
As part of his training, Sir Keir Starmer will add 30,000 apprenticeship places in the next four years, thanks to funding beyond £3bn this year.

Secretary Bridget Phillipson said that Labour supports making education work better for the future economy by trusting in Britain’s young.

She added: “Having skilled workers is essential for the future of our economy, and so today we are helping young people gain new chances to acquire skills, earn, and succeed.”
However, every person matters for a growing economy, so we’re acting on our part by supporting employment – now it’s the job of youth to take full advantage.
Support for training at the level of master’s apprenticeships will stop on January 20,26, and the focus will instead be on lower levels, but older apprentices and 16-21 year 21-year-olds will maintain support.
Neil O’Brien, the opposition’s education chief, said that axing higher apprenticeship schemes could damage the NHS and other parts of the public sector.
He also said: “It will shut doors to the professions for many young people who didn’t go to university.” Critics have warned that dropping higher apprenticeships will cost jobs and opportunities for young people, hence the surprise revision when Parliament is on recess.
By cutting almost every higher apprenticeship opportunity, Bridget Phillipson is harming young people at a time when higher national insurance is also increasing unemployment for them.

The White Paper released earlier this month proposes raising the charge employers must pay when hiring immigrants from abroad to “help local people improve their qualifications and use British workers more”.
The government will use this funding to help 45,000 people in new training places.
Based on research, apprenticeships are considered highly effective for helping young people prepare for work, yet fewer under-25s and especially those most at risk, have started these programs lately.
Since youth unemployment and inactivity have risen, encouraging investment in youth apprenticeships by transforming the system can help more young people get access to good jobs.
At the same time, the Law Society encouraged the government to maintain funding for master s-level apprenticeships for those more than 21 years old.
Apprenticeships, they stated, “served a key function in helping people move up in society.”
