Trump arrives in Saudi Arabia
Donald Trump has just touched down in Saudi Arabia (beginning of his momentous three-day tour of the Middle East).
It is his first significant overseas diplomatic trip in his second term and also a visit to Qatar and United Arab Emirate.
Our world news lead Yalda Hakim says it is the beginning of a “very historically important week” for the Middle East and the US.
Hakim writes that Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, has already promised to invest approximately $600bn, and says, “this trip is going to be about big business and big investments”.
The US president is to be welcomed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on his arrival.

Saudi Arabia’s leader greets Trump
Saudi Arabia’s crown princeMohammed bin Salman, has just greeted Donald Trump on his arrival in Riyadh.
It can be said that both men are divisive, yet the leader referred to as MBS is rather controversial, especially in the West, despite being a reformist in his country.
He opened the doors for the females to drive for the first time in the history of Saudi Arabia in the year 2018.
He is also Vision 2030’s man, the initiative of the country to diversify its economy off its dependency on oil, that has seen it splash masses in the global arena of sport and entertainment (investments in Newcastle United and 2034 football World Cup- which has divided opinions).
Next, one has some awe-inspiring building projects in the desert of Saudi in the context of the Vision 2030.
There is, though, a darker side as well.
He had been shunned internationally, most notoriously following the killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
